You Should Write More.

I have a confession to make: I HATE WRITING. At least I used to, but why run a blog? The biggest reason is to reach my PDP goals: Improve my writing and creative thinking skills, and become more agreeable with writing. Just about every skilled job requires you to be able to effectively communicate with your boss and coworkers, and writing is a basic skill that employers look for.
Being able to write was never a problem until I my sophomore year of high school, in fact I liked it until standardized testing ruined it for me. I went through excessive testing for the majority of my schooling and it had conditioned me to associate writing with my aversion of standardized tests. It was never about improving the individual student, but rather about meeting other people’s standards and quotas; people like envious politicians who feel the need to compare with other countries just for the sake of bragging rights. Their thought is that high test scores are solid proof that American students are still competitive. However, test scores are merely a facade; test scores in East Asian countries are undoubtedly high but at the cost of independent, creative thinking.
Instead of relying on institutions and other people to make me write, I’ve decided it’s about time I took personal responsibility of my education. After starting this blog, I’ve begun to see improvement in my attitude towards writing, and the more I write about things that I’m interested in my confidence has increased, especially knowing that anyone in the world can read my posts. Even though my improvement is small and incremental, progress is progress. So for all of you who are struggling with writing, the only way to get over the learning curve is to practice like write short articles about events around town, or try sending letters to the editor. Whatever you write just keep doing it.
