A New Chapter

I’m back from my week long hiatus and I feel more motivated than ever. I’ve got some exciting news to share with you: I’m officially a FEE (Foundation for Economic Education) campus ambassador! While I was away from the blog, I applied for FEE’s new ambassador program, went job hunting, and started a gym membership.

As the new campus ambassador for Valencia College, I’ll be hosting workshops, events, tabling sessions, and group discussions in the future. This is my new PDP (personal development project) that I’ll be working on and my biggest goal is to teach about economics in a fun way that will capture your attention, and present it in a way so that it’s not as boring and dry. Basic economics isn’t as mind-numbingly dull as people like to think, in fact it plays a part in every aspect of our lives from decision making to legislation. So what will I get out of the campus ambassador program? Leadership and administrative skills, and marketing experience. In short, I’ll be “selling” the ideas of economic liberty and it’s a plus that I already have some sales experience which helps tremendously in overcoming shyness. Stay tuned for progress on this project.

Overall, I’m feeling pretty good about life right now even though I’m currently unemployed, but I’m staying optimistic because I know I’ll get hired soon. One of the best perks of living in the tourist areas of Orlando is that I’m surrounded by opportunities and constant job openings for lower skilled college students, and it’s a blessing to be surrounded by theme parks because other industries flourished with them like shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, Airbnb, and so forth. I’ve decided to create my own opportunity and offer tutoring services for middle and high school students who need help in math, reading, writing, photography, or social studies, and as of now I’ve been contacted with a potential customer. So wish me luck!

For the first time I hit the gym and it was a sore but exciting experience. I started off with a quick tour of Gold’s Gym then headed to a BodyPump class which was a bit intense considering that I haven’t lifted that many reps before, but it was a fulfilling workout that gave me a sense of accomplishment. I’ve decided to join a gym for long-term health benefits because women are more likely to get osteoporosis later in life, which honestly is one of my fears: becoming bed-ridden and less active in life due to some medical condition.

I’m feeling satisfied with how things are going so far, and it’s been a long time since I’ve felt so motivated and genuinely happy. Taking a semester off has cleared my mind and helped me refocus on what I actually need in my life, and engaging in activities other than school has given my life direction and purpose.
