Feeling Blessed

My life after taking the semester off keeps getting better and its just the beginning. I wanted to share some exciting news with you.
I’ve been granted a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from a master ceramist in China all expenses paid!
My dad recently became friends with the owner of a Chinese pottery store, and since my dad was a frequent customer the owner, being a generous and hospitable man, wanted to give me this valuable opportunity. After he heard from my dad that I loved working with clay, he offered to let me stay with his family for two months AND help me find not just any teacher, but a master. So I guess this could be considered an apprenticeship because I’ll be getting one-on-one guidance rather than learning in a class with multiple students.
I feel so inspired and happy to be given this rare occasion. It’s almost like a scholarship except that I’ll be learning from techniques and passed down multiple generations, and if I’m good enough maybe I’ll get the chance to learn some of the master’s secrets.
This trip is not only for the pursuit of learning but it’s a way for me to reconnect with my ancestral roots and traditions, and what better way than to head to China for pottery.
I’ll keep you guys updated on how this goes, and if I do take the offer I’ll try my best to update the blog during my trip. There’s no guarantee that’ll happen since most, if not all, blogs are banned. But I’ll find a way to hop over the Great Firewall of China.
So the lesson to takeaway from this post is: networking is an invaluable tool that gets you places.
