Sorry I couldn’t help myself but use a clickbait title, I can’t take myself too seriously all the time. But for real, I think all of us could use a motivation booster right now.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how could I increase my morale without having to rely on somebody to give me encouragement. Don’t get me wrong, it’s comforting being around your favorite people and hearing them cheer you on, but they can’t be there for you when you’ve been bogged down with school, or when you’re being tormented by past experiences at 4 AM. So far I found one motivational booster and it’s as simple as recalling your accomplishments and the things you’re proud of. Your accomplishments could be something like cooking a difficult recipe, passing college physics with a high grade, or finally getting around to cleaning your room. For me, some of my accomplishments are winning 1st place in art and photography contests, finally understanding the grammar structure of Latin, and having my painting displayed in a tunnel underneath Capitol Hill. I can easily remind myself of these accomplishments by seeing them physically; I got a cork-board and pinned ribbons from the art contests and copies of the cash prizes I’ve won, a few drawings I made, and an “I voted” sticker from the first time I exercised my rights. You can do the same or something else like create a collage or make a simple list, but whatever you choose make sure you can access it easily.
Life trips everyone and can be difficult to manage, so I hope this method works for you. If you decide to try it out, tell me how it goes and if you have any suggestions let me know. And a bit of parting wisdom to get you started: When you’re looking forward, don’t forget to look back and see what you’ve built.
